He felt unclean. He could still smell the smoke, knew that it clung to his clothes, even after he walked around until morning. He'd gone into a bathroom, splashed water in his face, but part of him swore there was still soot somewhere, ash in his hair. But no one gave him a second look when he entered the cafe. One large coffee in his hands, he'd made his way back to the apartment, feet knowing the way even as his mind continued to wander. He didn't remember opening the door, but he remembered locking it, tossing the keys on the table and then sitting down.

She stripped to a tank top before coming into the room, purposeful and determined, turning her cell off and shoving it to the back of her locker - something which she almost never did. Never mind being reachable, she had time to get a few rounds in.
The training room was empty at this time of night. Empty except for the other figure in the co-ed changing room. No need to talk to him to know who it was. After years of marriage and what felt like an eternity of cohabitation, they know the drill only too well.
Date: Spring 2012 Characters: Joe Homberg Summary: Joe muses about the monotony of his "missions" and decides to break it. Warnings: Language. Status: Possible one-shot, to be followed up. Open...ish.
This was moronic. Every day was getting to be the same. No one who was supposedly "special" was. Either Intel had something slipped into their morning coffee or they were actually trying to make a fool out of him. The only reason he'd kept at it was because he thought it was a test.
How long can Homberg last without screwing around? How long will it take for him to snap? When is he going to screw up? When can we send him back...
Date: Spring 2012 Characters: Candice Wilmer, Dae-mun 'Jimmy' Lee Summary: There's nothing like coming home after a long, hard day at the office. Warnings: sexual situations Status: In Progress Private
Down in the garage, the lights were still out and she had to rely on instinct and memory to keep from bumping into walls. God, she hated being down here, and if she could've helped it, if she thought she could leave her car on the street and not find it vandalized, she never would've stepped foot underground willingly. Prelude for the grave, she thought, stepping into the elevator and wondering how long she'd have to wait until he came home.
"I wish you could forget about him."
Hard to do when she used to plan her day around him. She still knew what he liked, she could still judge his mood from the barest flicker of his glance. He was an open book and still, even divorced they'd managed to fall into that one pattern she feared most: the housewife waiting for the husband to come home. Hopefully alive, hopefully in one piece.

He'd allowed himself half a Vicoden and an hour spent curled up on the side of the couch, having dumped out a can of beer down the sink and set it in front of him as silent explanation for any...off-ness, he might display. Hiding the bandage under a bulky sweatshirt and a blanket, watching whatever trash passed for TV these days.
Forcing himself to remain cool, calm, when the keys turned in the lock.

He was going to kill her when he came to. And if Jamie didn't, Kirin would sure as hell try. It was a fact of life and she'd better accept it. Not that she could blame them. In five years of working with Jamie and another two of being partnered with him, he'd never gotten hit by a bullet because of her.
He'd never gotten hit period.
Leaning forward in her chair, she tapped his wrist with a pen.
"Hurry and wake up already, I'm signing my death sentence over here," she joked half-heartedly, knowing the anesthetic would wear out eventually.

This was no accident. It had been over a year since Jimmy had been assigned to pick up a target. Special Ops weren't designated for a task that many considered menial, but it didn't mean he would take the job light-heartedly. It was a missive, and there was a purpose for it to be handed out. He glanced over to his temporary partner, the purpose of the assignment clear: stay out of the other agents' way.
Date: Spring 2012 Characters: Claire Bennet and Lance Alvers Summary: TBA Warnings: None Status: Completed
Claire watched the news as her biological father appeared on the screen waving in the most uptight manner. People smiled all around him as if the whole world had suddenly become at peace. Everything was serious now and had been for some time. The worst case scenario was happening and all she could do was sit idly by and watch it happen in front of her. She had no other option otherwise because coming forward led to all kinds of danger and she would lose whatever life she had made for herself over the years.
She'd lose Andy, her fiance, who she loved dearly and he was someone she would never give up. He’s was the most normal thing that ever happened to her, with him there were no surprises and she always felt safe. Why would she ever want to leave a life like that behind? Smiling as she thought of him, Claire looked in the backroom to see him hard at work.
He was a good man who made honest and fair decisions. He was unlike her biological father in every way and she loved that most about him. Shaking her head for a moment she then turned off the television. Her break was over and it was time for her to work on getting as many tips as she could to save up for her upcoming wedding.
Date: Spring 2012 Characters: Jamie Madrox, Candice Wilmer Summary: Mom always said, don't hit girls. Unless they hit first. Warnings: none Status: Complete Open to the training rooms
Stretching idly, arm folded behind his head, Jamie shook himself slightly, stepping onto the mat.
Given the keyed-up nature of their work, slow days were all the more unbearable. And rather than being stuck in an office writing up reports and pouring over mission statements, begging off to put in some extra training hours was infinitely more attractive.
Date: Spring 2012 Characters: Candice Wilmer, Jimmy Lee Summary: Some secrets must be kept. Warnings: None Status: Completed
Jimmy expected that the procedure wouldn't be painless, most experiences involving him and doctors weren't. He had developed a high pain tolerance over the years, his body already bore scars from his experiences. That said, tolerating pain was different from enjoying it, and the body still found ways to rebel against someone, there was so much mental pushing through pain before the body worked for its own best interest.
He had made it home, sore all over and especially at the site of the injection. Mohinder had told him what to be on alert for, and gave Jimmy explicit instructions what to do if he felt worse or different. Curling up on the faded couch in his living room, he tried too sleep, in hope that he'd look more lively for the training session he was slated to lead hours later.
