"Power's down again," she muttered as she slipped into his room. "Got any matches?" This was what happened when you lived in a dump like NYC and your partner didn't like to see you smoke. This was what happened when you gave a damn and actually stopped smoking. No lighter, no light and Candice was reduced to walking around the apartment in the dark.

"I can't sleep and I was working on reports and..." she let out a long breath, knowing he probably didn't care. "Matches, please?"

Jimmy looked up from the report he was reading, a candle that was near the end of its use sat near his paperwork. He waved her over, tilting the saucer a little to space out some of the wax. "Have another candle?"

She smiled at that. Always prepared, wasn't he? And not nearly half as noisy. Sometimes she wondered what the hell he was thinking when he'd married her; they couldn't have been more different if they tried.

"Yeah, thanks," she nodded, kneeling beside him to light up her own stick of wax.

He glanced over at her in the candlelight, the tired lines under her eyes. "And you complain about me never sleeping. What report are you working on?"
3rd-Oct-2007 01:42 am (UTC)
"The Brooklyn riot," she shrugged, omitting his previous quip. She slept when she was tired. She wasn't tired now. "I still have Mexico City to work on." Although that was technically his pile, but she was too curious to put it aside.

While he wasn't surprised to find out that was where the file had disappeared to, a tiny spike of irritation shot through the back of his neck and shoulders. He groaned, leaning back in his chair to pinch at the bridge of his nose. Eventually he'd cave and wear his reading glasses.

"How far did you get on it?" he muttered, too exhausted to fight on her about working on his reports.
3rd-Oct-2007 01:55 am (UTC)
"Not far," she admitted, not feeling chastened at all. "You want it back?"

She'd get her kicks elsewhere, if she had to. He didn't need to enable her.

"You started it." he said with a shrug, adding. "They would spot inconsistencies if I took over where you left off."
3rd-Oct-2007 02:06 am (UTC)
"They wouldn't care," she shrugged, pressing him even though it was against her wishes. "Don't worry, I've got time to do it." Not that he'd let transpire that he worried. He was above that, wasn't he?

"Alright." he sighed, nodding. "Want a beer while they're still cold?" Alcohol and reports went hand in hand some days, and they lent proof that their superiors were selective on the reports they did submit.

"Sure," she agreed, not particularly eager to drown her sorrows in a bottle, but nonetheless knowing better than to refuse a chance to breakaway from the world.

"Generator should be fixed in a few hours," she suggested, knowing it would probably be days.

"If they manage that I'll give power and light my paycheck." he quipped, rising from his desk. He left his poor excuse for a candle at his desk, Jimmy was used to maneuvering around the apartment in the dark.
3rd-Oct-2007 02:21 am (UTC)
She liked his bed, that was her excuse as she sat down, pushing files away to make some space for herself.

"What and let me support you for a month?" she called out to him, a little uneasy in the dark despite being used to it by now.
3rd-Oct-2007 02:27 am (UTC)
"I'd pay you back." he called back, grabbing two beers from the refrigerator and made his way back to his room. Trading banter like they were still teenagers made him grin, made him think that not all had been lost over the years.
3rd-Oct-2007 02:28 am (UTC)
"With what?" she retorted, taking one of the beers from his hand. "You've got nothing that interests me." She thought for a second, realizing her own lie but not willing to admit to it completely. "Except your top secret mission files."
3rd-Oct-2007 02:35 am (UTC)
"Who knows, I could whore myself out to you and a few of your colleagues for a few days," he teased, moving onto the bed with both of his knees on each side of her legs, making as if to sit on her lap but instead rolled to sit down beside her.
